Shaw's wanted to create something special for their flagship store. With an ambitious idea for an exciting and differentiated state-of-the-art offering, they were looking for a format that would respond to market demands and provide a rewarding shopping experience. Our idea? A fresh and inspiring design with increased emphasis on general merchandise, "power aisles" that give customers a dynamic fresh food proposition, and innovative architecture, floor plans, graphics, and signage.

 
INNER-CITY SOPHISTICATION

With its uniquely-shaped site location, the Shaw's store in downtown Boston needed a format that would appeal to urban customers. Repositioning the brand as fresh, smart, and tempting, we designed a revolutionary exterior expression, complete with 325 feet of frontage, and created store windows that allowed pedestrians to see inside. Then we played with the building's eye-catching architecture, pitting a 38-foot-high glass atrium against a backdrop of Boston's history. Finally, we developed a unique store-within-a-store concept using a modular design that allowed the retailer to plug and play depending on the demographic of the area and contended with a space that was almost double the size of the average Shaw's market.
