A PLACE FOR THE MIDDLE CLASS...

A couple of years ago, Perennial embarked on a mission to add some momentum to the Spencer's brand and retail experience. Thanks to an ever-growing list of opponents, both local and international, the Indian grocery chain was getting lost among the fray and needed a unique point of differentiation. Neither hard discount nor luxury goods dealer, the store was looking for a way to connect with its target constituents - the rapidly emerging Indian middle class.

Our first duty was to make sure the public knew what Spencer's stood for. We clarified their platform, reducing the number of banner formats from five to three and defining each according to customer needs: Spencer's Express offers an edited assortment and quick shop for the Indian professional; Spencer's Supermarket delivers greater choice for weekly shoppers with larger baskets; and Spencer's Hypermarket is a one-stop destination carrying groceries, fashion, electronics, and home goods. To make sure the stores didn't go unnoticed, we refined the Spencer's identity and developed a more impactful exterior. And to fulfill the Indian population's growing desire for a more sophisticated lifestyle, we elevated the store's Premium Brand through updated signage and promotional materials. When the new sales numbers came in the results were clear - our new retail strategy had won the support of the people.
